Road safety is everyone's responsibility |

Police are aware of the ongoing and seemingly unending roadworks affecting several local villages, and we understand the frustration this can cause for drivers and residents alike.
However, these disruptions do not excuse unsafe motoring behaviour.
It is vital that all drivers continue to obey the rules of the road, follow signage, and remain patient behind the wheel.
We have received several reports about near misses between cars and pedestrians. These relate to vehicles approaching The Cross roundabout from the direction of Brook End. A significant number of motorists have been observed hurtling around The Cross roundabout the wrong way to cut a corner, almost colliding with young children who have suddenly and unexpectedly found themselves faced with fast-flowing oncoming traffic as they attempt to walk across the road.
This reckless behaviour puts lives at risk and will not be tolerated.
Police met with a senior member of staff from Repton School on Sunday 22 February, and discussed a number of safeguarding steps to improve road safety at the location.
These concerns were directly raised with the onsite traffic management company, and we continue to work with elected councillors and partners to address the issue.
Officers have also been conducting regular visible patrols at the location - and police will take firm action against anyone found driving carelessly or dangerously.
And your local officer met with Councillor Matt Benfield from Derbyshire County Council and a representative from the Traffic Management company yesterday. As a result, new improved signs have been installed on the roundabout and a footpath leading up to Burton Road, where a young person had a near miss with a car earlier yesterday, was closed from last night.
Please keep safe when approaching the location.
